At Incite, we believe that teams -- non-profit, for-profit and political -- are always better when they reflect the people they are built to serve. Representation matters. We believe that everyone can belong, everyone can have a seat at the tables of power.
All moms are working moms -- including the unseen, unpaid labor all moms provide behind the scenes, especially if they are unable to return to work. Historically, women and especially women with children have been overlooked or flat-out rejected, simply of who they are or who they care for. The pandemic has made this even worse.
More than 5M women have lost their jobs, because they have traded in their paying jobs to stay at home and take care of children. The number of women in the workforce is at a 33-year all time low. Additionally, Black and Latina women have unemployment rates that are up to 50% higher than the national average.
The Marshall Plan for Moms is a national movement to center mothers in our economic recovery and value their labor by advocating for public and private sector policies that support moms. This Mother’s Day, take action to support direct payment to moms, policies surrounding paid family leave, affordable childcare and pay equity, retraining programs to ensure that women can fill jobs that will exist and plans to safely reopen schools. This past week, we asked the moms to share a bit about their experiences and today, we’re taking some time to highlight the incredible moms in our Incite portfolio. They’re building impactful organizations and raising children while working to create a better future everyday.
Learn about their stories and how they’re changing the world. And don’t forget to call your mom!
